About Us

Finding Our Voice is a program dedicated to supporting newcomer students in their journey to learn English and succeed academically. We work closely with multilingual teachers, parents, and communities to foster inclusivity and empowerment through education.

We believe that language should never be a barrier to success. Our mission is to provide resources, mentorship, and innovative teaching methods to help students achieve their full potential.

Since our inception, we have empowered over 500 students to achieve their academic and language goals. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and innovative teaching methods, we strive to make a lasting impact in the lives of our students and their communities.

Our Journey

FALL 2021

"Conversation Partners" is created by 826 Valencia. Every thursday after school, newcomer students and 826 Valecia would meet to practice English.

WINTER 2022

After only one semester, four former newcomers: Emir, Darwings, Gil, and Yuly took leadershing on the program and renamed it "Finding Our Voice".

SUMMER 2022

"Finding Our Voice" is awarded a $10,000 grant by the Youth Funding Youth Ideas which caused a big inflex in the program

FALL 2022

The program is officially establifed at Mission High School becoming the first English teaching program to ever pay students to learn English and teach it.

FALL 2022

Finding Our Voice finishes its first semester with over 25 students involved in the program and designing better actitivires to learn and teach English.

Although those four students have already graduated from Mission High School, Finding Our Voice continues to have a strong presence in the school and continues to support the newcomer community!
